Tim, I enjoyed reading your post. Having recently launched an online banking user interface for a credit union using the same principles you mentioned (and React), I agree that this represents the path forward for financial institutions, and a surprising number of credit union execs seem to feel the same. It's an intimidating idea for most but they're seeing the opportunity.
To bring this back around to the mailing list topic, we've recently started a new banking front end using clojurescript, with a liberator-based mock API for development.
