Steven, The boot process appeared to have worked, but after login on the console, nothing from the backup of the VMFS partition is recognized by ESXi server after the restore. I tried to run grub against the restore disk (sdb), but I could not figure out what command I needed.
If I mounted the VMFS partition with Clonezilla, it appeared to be the data was there, but I am not sure. I'd really like to figure this out (I am on the hunt), but there's something amiss in the restore process possibly, unless there is some validation of the original VMFS files that causes the problem. Maybe in the future, we can have such a way to log most of the process.
