I've used Clonezilla to image a desktop and an average Gateway laptop to
a Samba share with no issues. I'm not so lucky with a 10" EeePC.
On the EeePC, it saves the MBR successfully, then right when it begins
to save the first partition (/dev/sda1) and says "Checking the disk
space..." the network connection stops functioning.
I've verified the network connection stops working by monitoring LAN
traffic with Wireshark, and also by going to another virtual console
(using ALT-F2) and pinging my router. The pings are successful until
right after the MBR is saved and Clonezilla checks for disk space.
I've tried the Debian and Ubuntu variations of Clonezilla.
In all
cases, I'm using the same LAN (all wired, no wireless), same Samba
server and login, and same Clonezilla image and settings. I've tried
the text-only mode and different compression methods including no
compression. It's interesting that a file is placed on the Samba shared
called DISK_FULL, even though the available space is more than twice
the size of the EeePCs drive.
I'm completely bewildered. I've tried this maybe a dozen times and it always
acts the same. What could break the network connection at that stage?
