I currently have a three partition setup using ubuntu 14.04:
sda1: efi boot
sda2: boot
sda3: LVM (root + swap)

Let's say I backup sda3. Subsequently let's say I add a few additional
partitions (it's a GPT disk) and did a few kernel upgrades (through
apt). If I then decided at some point later that I wanted to restore
sda3, could I go ahead and do that. I ask because it seems the
partition table will have changed as well as the kernel so will there
not be some kind of a mismatch?

Thanks in advance for any advice

P.S. I appreciate a full disk backup would avoid this but I'd rather not
do this as there's a large data portion I don't need clonezilla for.
