thank you very much for answering! I've on Friday decided to start a 2nd try, 
maybe just a one time error. And to be sure that the disk will not go to sleep, 
I've written a small and simple perl script which ran in parallel, writes a 
file and sleep for a minute, in a loop. 
Clonezilla has now successfully finished my recovery :)
