I launched a RHEL instance on ibm softlayer in order to see what it had in
/etc/redhat-release.

# cat /etc/redhat-release
Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 7.5 (Maipo)

I'll get redhat 6 version tomorrow.

for the record, the util.get_linux_distro() did work, as it used
/etc/os-release.

# cat /etc/os-release
