I'm using LILO to boot anyway. The problem persists in spite of it. I have
just posted a (lengthy, I'm afraid) response to Jesse Kline that would
indicate that the boot loader is working because now I can boot Linux and
get to X Windows. There are still lots of problems beyond that, though.
