Thanks for the article!  I have always wondered if the Linux community could be 
dominated by one player and if this could lead to a second MS like tyranny.

The nature of software with user's reliance on the vendor to be a good citizen, ie not 
locking them in, keeping the interoperability, has created a climate where monopolies 
seem naturally to be created (first IBM then MicroSoft).  This is why in the long term 
I think that OS's, code for infrastructure protocols, and file formats must have open 
source code with a licence that does not encourage forking, ie something like the LGPL.

Trying to lead events like what this article is suggesting that IBM is doing to is 
always difficult because of the law of unintended consequences, but it seems like the 
eventual outcome is likely to be what they predict; a kind of mutual benefit through 
investing in Novell/Suse.

I'm interested in anyone else's thoughts.
