I've read all the responses here, and what you did (Run older version of
redhat).

I am forced to run redhat 6 distributions for similar reasons. However I
prefer running the system in a more modern environment. THe compromise I
make (If it can be done) is to install the older distro. Then use a
newer distro and chroot to the root of the old one.
