When I took the LPI exam you could choose with of the package managers you wanted to write the test on.
At that time the only choices where RPM and DEB packages.

 No courses are necessary.
The hardest part of the exam I think is that you need to know command line and GUI options for doing things.
This proved to be my downfall since I prefer command line to GUI's (also I didn't study).

For those interested in Courses Mount Royal offers evening and day time course on the LPI.

Questions ;-)
On the LPI website is a pdf that outlines the required knowledge.
Besides the 3 diff package mngrs (apt-get rpm install from source)
there is nothing distro specific.
IBM has a 'course' on their developer network
written by Daniel Robbins ( the Gentoo guy ) .

Good Q, maybe Mark can answer this one.
I have organised 1 SIG like this before you need +/-
10 to 12 sessions of 4 hours. + personal study !!!
for LPI 101
and the same for LPI 102.

The idea of the SIG is to split work.
Everybody picks a couple topics that he/she studies UPFRONT and IN DEPTH.
Then during the meeting he/she 'teaches' tho others and should be able to answer ALL the questions.

The last meeting can be a mock exam.

Yep some links on lpi.org (google for other examples)

Like always it doesn't provide you a job but it can help you to get one :-)

Just for tests I guess.
