for all the groupware bells and whistles, you may want to have a quick peek at http://www.egroupware.org/

Well, I was speaking with my clients, and they WANT all the bells and whistles (calendar, todo list, notes, etc.). So I guess I need to use Horde then.

The only real problem I see now is how to make this work with virtual hosts. As near as I can tell, I'll have to create a separate instance of Horde (and the various modules) for each virtual host. Is there a better way or a better tool for this?

packages) before I install it.

you've pretty much already figured it out: Horde/IMP is more complete but
more resource intensive.

squirrel is less feature and less resource intensive.
