Hi Martin. Hmmm, no I'm not absolutely certain that it's the beacon and probe
frames, but it's not dhcp because I'm not using dhcp on the AP -- everything
is static. So other than dhcp, and the WEP key negotiation, what else could
it be?

When I negotiate a connection with my AP with Shorewall on (drakconnect), I
can run a network sniffer and "see" all the other devices on the subnet, I
just can't ping any of them or connect to systems on the internet. It's like
I have a connection but can't actually send any traffic.

Today I noticed that I get the same behaviour when I try to connect to a wired
network. If I run drakconnect with shorewall on (static IP), I can see all
the other hosts in the subnet, but can't ping them or connect to the
internet.

If I turn Shorewall off and run drakconnect and then turn Shorewall back on,
everything works fine...

Yeah, I'll give that a go...Thanks.
