From a firewall side of things -
take a look at Devil Linux (www.devil-linux.org) which is a great 
firewall/router running off a CD. I know that CARP is on the feature request 
list as well, but if you're really impatient, you can add it yourself. It 
doesn't have the web interface of IPCop though, but does have shorewall and 
firewall builder (www.fwbuilder.org) support.
