Open the box before you buy it and inspect the thing. Is it a simple power plug that goes into a socket, or is it one of those stupid power supply bricks? Those things are infuriating. The worst I've seen is on an iMac SuperDisk drive. It's a one by two inch brick that plugs in horizontally, thereby taking up at least two other sockets besides the one it uses. If at all possible, run an extension cord from the other side of the room to a power bar. The more you can spread the load between sockets, the less demand you'll be applying to the wires behind those sockets. And since you can't see inside the wall, no telling what you'd find in there if you could. Avoid damaged, cracked, or aged wires/cords/bars. And check out your fuse box just to make sure nobody's done anything stupid there. Fuses are supposed to blow when something's wrong. Pennies don't blow. Printers and other peripherals you can access via wireless can help you spread out the load even further, but that opens up yet another can of worms. -- Any technology distinguishable from magic is insufficiently advanced.
