1994 still seems recent to me, (I think my mind is trapped in the late 80s and early 90s.) As for the AT&T / Berkley SysV/BSD lawsuit I recall hearing quite a bit about it in my first year in University in 1995. I believe the UofC was particularly concerned with the issue and being in CPSC there were many people interested in the topic. But my mind memory is kind of fuzzy from that period,) with student life and the sleepless nights. I believe I got my first taste of linux then in one of my classes, the TA brought a RedHat book to class with RH5.x, (not too sure about the version,) and the TA indicated that our assignements which were done on the UofC AIX/UNIX systems could be done with RedHat. Since most people had Windows 95 or DOS at home we were impressed of the amount of tools and utilities that the system had. Comparing DOS to *NIX was like comparing a battery powered go-cart to a fully loaded car.
