vsftp - which stands for "Very Secure FTP", is a plain old FTP tool.
sftp - which is the SSH FTP protocol, passes trafic over an SSH connection, so
all traffic is encrypted, therefore should be more secure, though might be a
little slower because of the encryption.

With vsftp, any ftp client program can connect. With sftp, you must use a
sftp capable program - like WinSCP, or even sftp from the command line...

Hope that helps a little.

Shawn

Thanks Shawn, I did find a couple of web sites that were quite helpful. Now I just have to pick a client side program and give it a spin.
