Hi guys:
Just a little clarification on the debian package manager. The only
package manager that debian has is dpkg. Dselect, Apt, Synaptic,
Kynaptic (have I missed any?) are all front ends to dpkg. They are all
incapable of installing packages. All they do is select the packages per
your instruction and invoke dpkg to handle the rest including any
dependencies. Apt is incredible and deserves some study. See man apt and
all the links. Apt's most famous command is apt-get dist-upgrade. With
these four words your entire distribution is upgraded and all
dependencies and conflicts looked after.Viva Libranet!
Regards
Mel Broadhurst.
P.S. I use Synaptic almost exclusively.
