Evolution uses the gtk+ toolkit unlike the KDE applications which use the QT toolkit. So if evolution is the only GTK app. that your using, it would explain why you are only seeing the problem with that application. I think that your k3b problem is completely unrelated. I would switch back to the default theme, and see if evolution will start. If so, then you can see which themes it has a problem with. You can also switch to a native gtk theme by running gnome-theme-manager. Or you can try updating your copy of gtk-qt-engine.
