I have an HTC Kaiser/Tilt which has builtin support for SIP and wifi. I have not played with it too much but it does work, although the audio quality of the SIP implementation leaves something to be desired.

The biggest advantage with it being built in is that it is not a separate SIP application, but rather a component of the phone. So, if I'm registered via SIP and I make an outbound call, it will go over wifi.

I have not had any experience with the Nokia series of phones though I did notice Fido advertising the other day for using one and their wifi/gsm option.

Does anyone have any experience with dual-mode cell phones? I've been
looking at the Nokia E and N series, as many of them support wifi and
sip, although they are fairly expensive.

Thanks,

I had an unlocked UTstarcom F3000 and it was junk. The firmware was buggy and it would loose it's wireless connection all the time. I gather that the majority of the wifi sip handsets out there are not worth the money. Buggy firmware and poor battery life seem to be major issues. If it's for your house I suggest that you simply get a good ATA device like the Linksys 2102 and use a regular corless phone with it. You can pick ATA's up on ebay for $50 or less.
