The difference between a debian 'normal' and 'expert' install is the amount of detailed questions you are going to be asked to fine-tune the install. Personally, I tend to select 'expert' command-line install but then modify the "priority" setting and set it to "medium."
Standard debian install priority: high Expert debian install priority: low Good amount of debian install control: medium Suggestion: you can _always_ try an expert cli install. If you get really stuck, press the TAB key to return to the main install menu and select "Abort the installation." Then restart from there.
