I do not yet know how to check whether my machines are running ntpd. I did check the /var/log/ directories on both machines and on both machines messages and messages.1 exist. My desktop and laptop handle these files differently. My desktop allows me to view but not write to the files as long as I do nano messages or nano messages.1 as a user My laptop does not allow me to even read the messages or messages.1 file as a user but does allow me to read them as super user. I do not want to mess up those files as super user so I did a cntrl x and selected N for no to be on the safe side on the lap top. On the desktop computer the messages file had one line and the messages.1 file had several hundred lines. On the laptop computer the messages file had over 4000 lines and the messages.1 file had about 490 lines. could someone please tell me how to check whether either of my computers runs ntpd?
