Exactly!
There is no way "they" can make anything secure. Putting faith in 
Corporations/Business/Govt to make use "secure" is a misplaced ideology.

Only you can make yourself secure, on the street, in your house, dealing with 
your bank.

Read the banks policy's and procedures. Only use their direct link, don't click 
on links via email. We all know this, and we (My intended "WE" is this mailing 
list - aka knowledgable individuals who are smarter than the average bear) know 
not to click every link that comes via email, just because it looks like it 
came from our bank.

So long as you keep your end secure, the bank keeps their end secure, a 
man-in-the-middle via ssl would be difficult to accomplish.
