An update on the laptops: My employer is an engineering firm in southeast Calgary. I don't work in the IT department, but know that IT has lots of machines taking up space, and has been trying to productively dispose of them.
The NC8430 appears to run Ubuntu 12.04 effectively, judging by the quick test I did on a fresh dual boot setup yesterday. Sound, wifi and suspend/resume worked. I saw ONE model TC1100 tablet. I have not had a chance to test it and do not know if there are more. I may have a machine or two at one of the Protospace 'Meet and Geek' events on Tuesday evening in the next week or three.
