Well, then you are out of luck, get a newer kernel ... since you didn't say what kernel you where trying to run, or find a driver and compile it against your kernel. you will need to install the devel / header packages for your kernel to make the compiling work.
or do as my friend on the list has suggested, get one of them usb sound adapters, they work like a charm, even i have a couple of them just in case. You can really get cheap once with mike and headphones sockets only for around nine dollars or so... Check if a newer kernel ( The linux kernel ships with all the drivers ) for your distro, in many cases, there should be a newer packaged kernel, apart form the mainstreem / default one that you may well be running. Cheers Sam Ps.: if your laptop has a bluetooth, you may want to set that up, and use a bluetooth headphone instead... And if your laptop lacks a bluetooth built in, you can get a bluetooth dongle for cheap, make sure you get a very small one tho :-) On Tuesday, November 7, 2017 12:50:46 PM MST Joe S wrote: > I tried alsamixer and pavcontrol and didn't make any better.
