What in zsh is equivalent to  $( commands ) in bash?

I will focus the question with a specific.
say
lsdot - is a script of mine that lists all files in $PWD without extensions
for example x but not x.txt

in a bash shell

ls -lt $(lsdot)  # does the ls specified on all files without extensions

For example:

ls -lt $(lsdot)
drwxr-xr-x  6 caziz caziz 12288 Aug 21 19:03 myscripts
-rw-r--r--  1 caziz caziz   251 Aug 21 13:50 x
drwxr-xr-x 10 caziz caziz 12288 Aug 18 20:07 Camera
drwx------  6 caziz caziz 20480 Aug 12 16:40 Pictures

Thank  you.

Suffering a bash to zsh conversion.
