The commands which accept generator expressions document that they support generator expressions. I'm not aware of any gaps there. I have had a note locally to add more-comprehensive linking in the other direction from http://www.cmake.org/cmake/help/v3.1/manual/cmake-generator-expressions.7.html but it's not done yet.
