I have always allowed the H & P if we can validate that the entire hospital stay of the resident was within the 14-day lookback period for IV meds.
example: Resident is in the hospital for 4 days and it is documented that the resident received IV med treatment of some sort in the progress notes or discharge summary. In doing the 5-day assessment, depending on the ARD, looking back 14 days would include the entire hospital stay so I then count it. If the resident was in the hospital for a prolonged stay, then there would be no way to determine if the IV med was given during the lookback period unless you had solid documentation such as a MAR.
