Absolutely agree with Michelle - the hospital is using HIPAA as a cop out. Go to your Privacy Officer and she can produce the documentation from the regulation that permits this type of disclosure. You must push for those records.

You should still be able to get the records.  Just because HIPPA is in place doesn't mean the the receiving facility should not get info.  In the  HIPPA info it states that the sharing of info between to healthcare providers should not be subject to HIPPA, because you need that info to care for that person.  Whoever does your HIPPA stuff should contact the hospital and educate them.

Subject: IV Fluids

Does anyone have a D/C Summary sheet which includes IV fluid amounts received during a hospital stay. Our hospital will not release medical records to out off site facility due to HIPPA regs. How does everyone else get this information. I would appreciate any help! Thanks! Annette Corn Fax # 828-696-2720.
