I am sorry to hear about your mom.
I can probably put the slides on the blog site depending on the file
size.

Cheryl-Anne, et al,
With all that you have contributed to this group, it's the least
that I could do - provide an electronic "copy" of Dr. D's slides. I was
scheduled to particiapte for the telecon, had received the packet, and
then received a summons to my Mother's bedside that day. Unfortunately,
by the time I arrived (after the 4+ hour drive, some at 90 mph), she had
already passed. I'm still dealing with the stress associated with it and
the following arrangements, but am now back home and trying to get back
into "normal." I will try to scan the slides this week, but do not have
text-editing capability with my scanner, can just capture images (as
jpeg's). I will then email them to the group. Open to other suggestions
in how to share them (perhaps email them to Rob for appropriate
posting).
Thanks for everyone's help and supporting info in this group, I
just joined myself recently and haven't contributed much due to the
above reason, and my fatigue. I was dx with CML on 4/22/03, have been on
varying doses of Gleevec with mixed success, and currently on 600 mg. I
had the pleasure of traveling to OHSU and meeting Carolyn and Dr. D on
4/1/04 (no foolin'). He helped me convince my oncologist to put me back
on 400 mg, and have since upgraded to 600 mg. Therefore, I may be
traveling to Portland again in the spring for another visit with Dr. D
(depending on what my BMB in February shows - the one in Oct showed me
55% Ph+, which was an improvement from the one before in July when I was
taking 400 mg).
God Bless You All...

Hello
Giora,
Thanks for your comments. Wayne did a good job of
describing what he was saying. So, we have to be careful
that at this point it is only extrapolation of the 4 year
number. I think he is referring to the IRIS trial.
However, I like that he pointed out that at this time there is a
99% survival rate with IM. The other thing his SCT data does
not take into consideration is the QOL (Quality of life)
issues. We would have to compare the lingering effects of a
transplant versus side effects from Gleevec. However, in
saying this, I do not wish to diminish the idea of transplants,
many people have been helped with them. It just seems that
these things would have to be carefully considered and I think
that was what he meant when he said it is a very dynamic decision
t o make.
I do have data that was reported from ASH
regarding the patients that were in the Phase II trials. I
will send that hopefully soon, my flu is just about gone and I
have my energy back - but I do have to get caught up on some of
the work I missed;>)
If I am not mistaken, patients who
signed up early actually got copies of Dr. D's slides, which is
what he was referring to. So if anyone reading this has his
slides and can figure out how to share it with us, it would be
helpful.
Cheers, Cheryl-Anne
