Hi Stacy. I have the water blisters also and very bad adema. What did you put on yours. The Dr. gave me an antibotic because my legs were so bad and cream I've tried about 6 kinds and that doesn't help either. I'am on 2 different water pills and my potassium is so low he's worried. I take 12 potassium pills a day I went up 50 lbs because of the water but now have lost that but still can't lose any more water. Take care and have a nice Merry Christmas. JUDY dx99

Good for you losing weight! Keep up the good work! Way to go!
I too have lost a significant amount of weight since I started
Gleevec. I started out at 355 lbs at 5' 10". I am now down to 280
lbs. (a loss of 75 lbs and still losing) after a year and a half
(started on gleevec in 8/03). Someday I'd like to get down to my high
school weight of 180 (I am 27, it doesn't seem possible that I was
that small 10 years ago!)
My weight loss started when I couldn't keep my food down at any
meal. Gleevec really gives me a LOT of nausea, among all the other
side effects, even to this day. At the time they had started me on
600mg and I was experiencing a lot of toxicity from it (I am PCRU for
a year now, although I have never acheived HR because of high
platelets, go figure, and on 400mg).
Since being PCRU though in March of 04, I joined Weight Watchers, and
they have really helped (my onc at University of Chicago, is very in
favor of my weight loss, btw). I have learned so much about
nutrition, and really do feel a lot better because of it. I haven't
drank carbonated beverages since high school. I drink a lot of water
and iced tea (for it's diuretic and caffeine qualities), although I
can't drink or eat anything after about 9 or 10 pm because of the
aedema (lasix wears off about that time, and I am on 80 - 120mg of it
a day, have suffered weeping water blisters in the past and they
pulled out 800cc's of water out of my lungs a year ago too)
I REALLY recommend Weight Watchers to anyone looking to learn about
nutrition, and for the support the meetings give.
I have also started exercising this week, worked out three times on
the step machine for the first time since I started gleevec. (I used
to be pretty active before being diagnosed, but I had a breastbone
BMB, that went horribly wrong in dec of 03, and caused so much chest
pain for the last year that I haven't even been able to think about
it until now, but it has finally diminished to the point where
exercising is now an option)
Okay, I guess that's all I have to say for now, I have only posted a
couple of times in the past, but I am just so frustrated with this
drug lately that I have been reading a lot of posts the past couple
of weeks. I feel so terrible on a daily basis, with fatigue, nausea,
aedema, etc and all the rituals I have to go through on a daily basis
to keep these things at bay just frustrate me. I appreciate every
one of you helping me to keep my sanity, knowing that there are
others out there struggling just as much as I am.
Happy Holidays all, and Hopefully for all of us, there are many more
to come,
Best Wishes,
Stacy Wisslead

run about 500)
