As I mentioned in an earlier posting, we are expecting in May 2005.
We raised the question of having another child within a week of
Stew's diagnosis, but his two local oncologists had no experience
with this topic. Same with my doctor. We then asked Dr. Talpaz about
it on Stew's first visit to MD Anderson, and Dr. Talpaz wasn't very
supportive -- his reaction was that it'd be better to wait "7 or
more years" until more was known about the long-term effects of
Gleevec. Since that timeframe didn't sit well with us for a variety
of reasons, we polled the group here and found several examples of
couples who had Gleevec babies without any difficulties.

Like Kelly, we also contacted Dr. Druker ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) and
received a very similar response. If it helps in your search for
answers, I'd definitely encourage asking him for his opinion.

Good luck with your decision-making ... I know it's a tough one to
weigh (and may come with some second-guessing from friends and
family). For us, we're very encouraged about the future and didn't
want CML to interfere with the plans we'd always had for our family.

(I should also mention that every check-up thus far has gone well --
the frequent comment is how active this baby is and that we should
be prepared for a very mobile daughter ...)

wife to Stew, dx 11/03
