Title: Message

Hi Hans,

Thanks for your response.  I guess I offended Rob and Jennifer (not sure who they are except that they are the sponsors of the CML support sites), concerning my offer to volunteer.  I would like to discuss with you my thoughts in providing a service and developing a program for providing IT services to individuals and families living with CML.

In regards to time, I am pretty flexible.   Let me know when it is convenient.

My office number is (415)731-2884.   If I am not there, just leave your number and a short message with my assistant.  Otherwise we can e-mail each other.

Thanks,

Peter

Peter,

what a wonderful idea.

Besides that I have to share your #1 goal for 2005 and adopt it for myself, I am rather intruigued by your idea of making IT equipment, services and training more accessible.

I am the Service Department Manager in the Syracuse location (Central/North NY Area) of the one of the largest computer retailers in the US. I am thinking we should get together at a convenient time and bounce ideas of eachother maybe pool resources and develop a program.

For the members and/or families in the Central/North NY area - please feel free to contact me privately - If I can assist I will be more then happy to do so.

Everybody have a wonderfull 2005 and it shall be the best NEW YEAR ever

Regards

Hans

Subject: [CML] 2005 Goals

Hi Everyone,

I hope everyone had a joyful and uneventful new year celebration.
For the past month I have been preparing my personal and business
goals and objectives for 2005.  My #1 personal goal is to work with
my doctors in obtaining full remission of my CML (I know it is
somewhat out of my control, but I can at least take a very active
role in my treatments and work on alternatives for reducing stress,
minizing depressive thoughts etc. that might hinder my progress).
One of my other goals is become active within our community by
volunteering and providing limited pro bono services to other
individuals living with CML.

I am a information technology consultant and own a information
technology consulting and training firm.  Since I am fairly new to
the club, I have noticed that some individuals have problems getting
access to the internet.  Is it lack of computers?  Costs for high
speed internet access?  Computer training?

If lack of computer is an issue, my company is always swapping older
computers (work just fine and are quite usuable to access the
Internet) from my clients and donating the computers to non-
profits.  I would be happy to start donating these older computers
to individuals living with CML who either need a computer or replace
their existing computers.  I can also try to work with SBC in
developing a lifeline program to provide high speed internet access
for free or reduced costs (I am sure there is already a program out
there.  Does anyone know?).

I have been thinking of developing a program for my trainers provide
free one-on-one computer training to individuals and their families
living with CML (San Francisco Bay Area only).  The training could
not only teach computer literacy but also training on newer versions
of computer applications (such as, Windows XP, Microsoft Office
products) for individuals wanting to get back into the workforce.

I plan to join my local chapter of the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society.
But I am interested in providing services and support directly to
individuals and families living with CML.   I am a bit leery of just
donating money to large organizations.  I am also not great at
counseling and listening (personal limitation of mine).   So if
there are any services that is not being fulfilled for individuals
and families living with CML, please let me know.

Thanks,

Peter
