Hello Friends, Now that the hectic Holidays are over - Happy New Year to all! May we all continue our remissions, or find a remission, and gain strength and support from one another this new year. My husband and I usually spend January reflecting on the past year and setting goals for the New Year. For 2005, my renewed goals are to `stay in remission', and `lose a few pounds'. While Gleevec is responsible for the 'stay in remission' part, it's not helping with my second goal. This year, I'm privileged to have once again joined the Denton Team- in-Training group, as both an Honored Hero and a participant. Starting February 5th, I'll begin my training for the Mayor's Midnight Marathon in Anchorage, Alaska on June 18, 2005. Of course, finishing 13.1 miles in the Dallas flatlands for the White Rock Marathon (which my husband and I completed December 2003) is not the same as 13.1 in mountainous Anchorage � so I've set my sites a little higher this time! My goal is to raise $4,000 for LLS by May 10th. (Can you guess why that date? <big grin>) It is largely due to Marque Leseur's passing that I decided to complete another � marathon. Since I will always remember him as the `Mountain Man', it is fitting that I complete this event in Alaska! I'm also doing this for Jerry Mayfield, all the AMN107 and BMS-354825 clinical trial participants and for all of you for whom Gleevec has not been the `magic bullet'. I would welcome the opportunity to wear your name (or any name you wish) on my honoree bracelet or shirt during the race in June. Please email me the names you'd like me to wear (off-list). While I'm somewhat reluctant to ask CML survivors for a donation to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, some of you may donate anyway, and if you'd like to make a donation through me, your support would be greatly appreciated!
