I am sorry to tell you that a fellow cmler has lost
his
battle with the disease. He was diagnosed 2/04.
William Arroyo was not a
member of this group but was
a member of my local cml support group.
He and his
beautiful wife and young daughters were at our cml
barbecue
last year. He was only 34 years old.
William did not
respond to any of the current drugs
and treatments. Gleevec and then
the BMS drug worked
for only a short time and then mutations
were
discovered. He has been on chemotherapy off and on
for a
year. He has been waiting for a donor for a
long time but one was
never found. He is of Spanish
heritage and donors are difficult to
find.
I attended the wake tonight and it was heartbreaking.
His daughters are only 4 and 6 years old.
William fought so hard and
his wife was at his side
constantly the last 2 months when he was at City
of
Hope waiting for a donor. The last words spoken
between them
were "I love you, babe."
Hug someone today and tell them you love
them. Life
is so short and precious.
