It is true that a PCR test can be run on peripheral blood, but I
believe that bone marrow analysis is generally considered to be more
accurate, and there is additional information that can be gleaned from
BM.  From my reading, after you have been on Gleevec for a year or so
and have good numbers, most Drs. that specialize in CML will want to do
a BMA (bone marrow aspiration) annually.  A BMB (in which they take
bone as well as marrow seems to be Drs. choice.  Some Drs. resist doing
bone marrow analysis because it costs more.  Laura, if you are nervous
even a tiny bit, you should trust your intuition.  Get a second opinion
from a CML expert.
