Can't remember the questioner, but my
cousin, Dona, wanted to report that she
has diabetes and is on Actose. Because of her extreme pain (among other
side
effects) she is taken off Gleevec for maybe a week and not frequently.
When she is off Gleevec, her counts are much
lower, so she is happy for a few days.
The day she goes back on. the counts rise
even though she eats almost nothing. Hope she doesn't ever have to go
onto
insulin. Her 6-month appt. at MDACC
(Dr. Cortest) is second week of Oct.
and it is iffy whether she can manage to get onto the plane in Tucson.
She has
been CCR for about 5 years and I guess
wouldn't mind going off this lengthy trial
except the free Gleevec is a big factor.
After 17 or so trips with her, I am just not
able to accompany her to Rotary House.
Means getting to Tucson to help her a
couple of days, then usually a week in
Rotary and back to Tucson a week. There
are a few factors involved, some health and some financial (for me). I
have to get
a room for myself just to be able to get some sleep and it runs me an
additional
several hundred dollars. Even if the temp
in Houston is in the 90's, the heat has to be on full blast and I
couldn't take it in
April. Will report on her "progress" later.
