Hey Pat,

Sounds like she is being over cautious...maybe because her shop is in
her home. I know from running my business out of my home that you are
always cautious about playing "you bet my house"! But if that is what
she needs to be comfortable and what you need to be comfortable is to
not go into a salon...getting a note from the doc is probably a small
price to pay. You might want to refrain in those situation from
referring to your treatment as "chemo". While I use that term also
when speaking in general about my treatment (it helps people
understand) it is in actual fact not chemo. The TKI's are small
molecule therapies. It may be that there are some actual chemo's that
perming would be bad with, or in general because of the larger risk of
hair loss with traditional chemo, that makes the stylist
uncomfortable. The other thing you could check on is if there is
someone who works at a salon that might come to you....my mom had that
in CA and it was helpful to her. It might take some calls to local
salons and just ask. As far as the difference in perm reactions...I
know on sprycel my hair feels alot dryer and more brittle than it did
not Gleevec...something for the stylist to consider in regard to
chemicals.

Keep the faith. peg
