One trivial way you can speed this up a bit is to skip writing and
reading that otherwise unused REXX variable, and keep your work in the
pipeline:
Signal ON ERROR
Do Forever
'peekto'
'callpipe *: | take 1 |',
etc.
It's still a lot of stages to start and stop for every record, though.
If you injected a delimiter between records, you could change all those
JOIN * stages to JOINCONT and then not have to pick through one record
at a time.
