I did not anticipate it to be that smooth. Basically I could compile
and transform the zlib source with no modification at all (but there
are some quirks with the autoconf things). There's some 300 odd lines
of PL/j to make the pipeline filter package and do the ABI linkage and
wrappers around CMSSTOR macros. The zlib source delivered 25,000 lines
of assembler input.

We also did the PCRE library as another proof of concept. That worked
well too.
