Editize: www.editize.com

It's not free, it's a Java applet (but since a lot of people have Java
without knowing it, you may be able to overlook this issue), but at least
it works in a plethora of browsers on all OS's. It's the only one we know
that works on OS X (Safari) and on Windows in IE, FF, and Opera. And works
pretty well, at that.

It allows multiple uses in a single page.

The only downside is that it can't guarantee well-formed output, because
you can paste a horrible mess into it and it won't fix everything, just
some of it (until you reload, but even then it can't fix everything). So,
if you want to ensure valid XHTML, you'll have to resort to server-side
processing (recommendation: HTML Tidy) of the input nonetheless...

It's not an optimal thing at all, but my CMS uses it, and our clients are
very happy with it on the whole. We've looked for better ones for 1,5
years now, and have found none. Our demands are only met in Editize, which
are (aside of work on all OS's and in all recent browsers on each):
possibility to insert tables (used for tabular data), possibility to
insert images, links, use MS Word shortcut keys, look like Word and, last
but definitely not least, create semantic markup.

Cheers,
