I have also similar difficulties, but didn't bother to find out the reason
up to now (I will try to watch more carefully in the next time).  From time
to time, I get those problems and have to type C-g.  In contrast to Ray I
cannot continue working, but the listener is blocked.  I have to do M-x
interrupt-subjob-ilisp (even 2 times if I have sent a form from another
buffer) before I can continue working.
