Here in the sailing netherlands of St. Louis, skippers that would like to keep a good crew together usually supply sandwhiches for lunch, water and then snacks and beers after the race. Crew will frequently bring snacks & desserts. I think a lot is learned at the party after the race. We learn were mistakes were made and corrective action, without playing "teacher." For a regatta like the Leukemia Cup, it's not unusual for the skipper to buy dinners at the venue on saturday night for the crew. Of course, there are those that don't also. But over the past years, the correlation between top places and well served crew has an r value of 0.9! The advantage of racing a SJ 21, less beer consumed. Ron Wild Cheri C&C 30

Plus, they have to travel to get to my boat and I live here. One owner I race with is very generous, special kinds of snacks, homemade gourmet sandwiches, high-end beer.
