I am also a new owner of a 29-2 hull number 693 (1985).

Bought the boat this spring in NJ and brought it to Pickering, ON through
the Erie / Oswego canal.

I had the same problem with leaks from around the mast step. Finally figured
out that the water was leaking in around the mast boot / sail track groove,
running down the mast and through the limber holes into the bilge. Sealed
the boot / mast joint with rigging tape and put a plug of caulk in the sail
track groove at the boot. This solved the problem.

I still have a leak around the cabin top grab rails. Will remove these for
refinishing over the winter and re-install them in the spring to eliminate
this leak.

The other leak that I had was coming from the stern and running under the
engine into the bilge. This was tough to find and it turned out that the
exhaust hose was rotten where it attached to the through hole at the stern.
The rotted hose was leaking exhaust and cooling water into the bilge. You
have to remove the engine control panel in the cockpit to see this leak. A
new exhaust hose solved this problem.

Where do you keep your boat?
