I have a 2GM20F in my 1977 C&C 26. It was in there when I bought it. I have the original build sheets and inspection papers for my boat. The Vire was standard at the time, but the diesel was fitted as an option. I don't know if the 2GM20 was the original option (the paperwork is not clear on that) and the Yanmar was shiny new when I bought the boat - one of the reasons I plumped for this particular boat. There is plenty of room under the companionway, so I would think you could get almost any make of engine in there!
