Hi russ,

Yea I did read about standard horizon during my research on chartplotters ann
there was a lot of negativity in regard to their customer service. IIRC, the
general consensus was, standard horizon had pretty good stuff but lacked in
support.

Sorry to hear of your trouble with them.

Hi Danny,

I can understand why Pete would say such a thing.

He may have had a problem with a product and got stonewalled by an
inconsiderate support system.

I am offering supposition here because I could say something similar
about Standard Horizon. "Don't let your friends buy Standard
Horizon... especially from Binnacle." To be clear, the Binnacle guy
tried to help but in the end could only offer "You will probably get
better results with honey..." That didn't work either.

I had a Standard Horizon radio display "go wonkie" on it's
third power-up. I asked for a replacement radio since it was obvious to
me, a lemon. Unfortunately the third use was past the 30 exchange period
WTF? and although everyone was "Oh, too bad, that should not
happen." Nothing Happened. I will not buy electronics through
Binnacle again and now I'm also wary of Standard Horizon (and I thought
Lowrance was bad).

So, Pete. Thanks for the warning. It's good for all of us to hear when it
doesn't work out well.

Cheers,
Russ

Pete,

Why would you say that? I researched the hell out of autopilots
before buying mine (as I do with everything...I can be a little
obsessive) and it became apparent to me that, you really get a lot of
bang for your buck and people that own them are generally very happy with
them. Hell, there are 4 or 5 listers that have them and posted they
are very happy with them?

I know a below decks system is better but, its a lot more money, over
twice if I recall. I'd love to have one but, for the sailing i'll
be doing over the next few years, I took the money saved and got some
wireless wind, speed and depth instruments this year!

No Offense meant or taken, just like it when people elaborate.
Someone searching for an autopilot might be swayed by such a
statement. when it will be fine for their situation.

I dunno, I don't think they would be as big as they are if they sucked as
bad as that statement would lead one to believe...

Anyway, back to our normally scheduled banter...
