OK, I'm stumped.  I've disassembled several Barlow 28's and am very familiar
with them.  However, I am now servicing a pair that's different.  There are a
number of Barlow/Barient 28 manuals and exploded views on the net.  Including
those on the C&C Photoalbum.  However, I can't find a service manual for this
particular winch.

Most Barlow/Barient 28's have an Allen screw (23) on the bottom of the main
shaft (9) that holds the center shaft pinion (6) to the main shaft.  Remove the
screw and the main shaft pulls out the top of the gear housing (2).  Numbers
refer to the manual on the photo album here:

The 28's I have seem to have a collar that takes the place of the Allen screw.
The collar is splined on the inside.  I'm thinking the collar screws onto
threads on the outside of the bottom of the main shaft.  It looks like I need
to place a splined shaft into the collar and a winch handle in the top of the
main shaft to remove this collar and separate the center shaft pinion and gear.

Any lister seen/serviced this particular winch?
