I replaced the Beckson plastic with a cast aluminum from Atkins and Hoyle, the
original C&C supplier. Looks, good, opens easily and fit in the head like a
glove.

Last splash after haulout saw no water from exhaust.? Fortunately, slip was
just a couple minutes from Travelift.? In the slip I found that something had
plugged the engine intake thru hull.? Blew it out with a dock hose.?

Later the drain from the head sink was plugged.? Had to cut hose and rod it
out.? Think the yard plugged them for painting or some mud daubers were really
active.?

The thru hull for my air conditioner routinely plugged when at the Pensacola
Yacht Club.? Had to blow it clear with dock hose frequently.

Point is, the strainer for all of these was clean.? The pluggage always
occurred upstream of the strainer.?

I'm considering replacing the elbows with tees and a plug so I can rod them out
if dock water is not available.

This summer we had a small fish get jammed into the elbow immediately above the
engine raw water seacock - stopped the raw water almost completely. We were
only 2-3 miles from a marina, with the wind behind us so we sailed up to the
dock, borrowed a pipe wrench, took the elbow off and were on our way. We now
carry a small pipe wrench with us as diving on the boat in 500 feet of rather
cold BC (Canada) water was not alot of fun! (and in this case did not resolve
the issue). We did try running several flexable things down through the
elbow/seacock, but these items also seemed to go around the dead fish as well

On a summer race series down the lake the engine overheated? (thank ?my lucky

Hi All,

I have been studying the forums looking for sources of portlights for a C&C
34. I was wondering if anyone knew of someone that already had the patterns
and you could just order the frame and plexi?

Also, is there a mod whereby you can make the port an OPENING porthole
instead of a fixed portlight?

The projects to clean up Gabriela are officially underway.

Thanks for any suggestions.

I replaced the four portlights on my 38 MkII with opening ports from Lewmar. I
had to recut the openings but that was not very difficult once I found the
correct jigsaw blade. No leaks, replacement parts readily available, and they
open now!, I'm very pleased with the result.

Pete,

I've been on the Chesapeake for 20 years too and have never had a problem.
I have a large strainer inside, but only find a bit of grass in it now and
then. I empty it every 3 or 4 years, but it has never been an issue.

Here on the Chesapeake, sea nettles abound for most of the summer, and they
are a constant threat to my engine water intake. This is particularly true
when I am getting ready to leave the dock.

On my 30MKII, the engine intake is completely "naked", i.e., no protection
against drawing in a sea nettle, or any kind of debris. There's simply a
small orifice directly into the marelon seacock. It's not unusual to find
debris in the onboard strainer.

I am considering installing a bronze strainer to mitigate the risk. I would
appreciate any feedback on what, if anything, others have done to address
this problem.

Thanks,

Pete W.

I sucked up a jelly fish in my air conditioning the other day. It was a
mess and not fun to clean but from inside the boat it was a lot dryer and
faster then diving below. The strainer on the A/C is a fine mess and no
where near the same open (1/4" holes) design as the engine strainer. The
a/c water pump was still pushing out a trickle.
