I've had the same GFO Gore-Tex in my stuffing box since 2006. I do let it drip just a little bit, but they say once you break it in you don't have to. No problems to date. The box was new when I re-powered, by Buck Algonquin. I like it because the nut has a little tab with a hole, which I tied over to an engine stringer with seizing wire. With my V Drive and RH prop, the forward rotation is also the same direction to loosen the nut. However, it has the standard lock nut, and hasn't ever budged.

The newer packing material is GFO Gore-Tex dripless packing. Did not experiment
it yet, but I might next spring.
