You're right about the sunlight, Roger, but the software does everything I
need it to do, including showing course lines, speed, COG, and bearings. I
can use it for routing, too.

I think having a plotter at the helm is nice, but far from necessary; I
grew up sailing around Vancouver Island pre-Loran, so we got comfortable
using paper charts and a compass. Moving along at 6 knots, I don't find
myself in need of a constant update of my course and position. Where I like
having a plotter is entering a harbor, and I haven't had a problem using
the iPad under the dodger while the admiral drives the boat.
