The expanded PVC is known as Sintra board, and is available in a whole
bunch of colours from plastic supply houses. We used to stock it in 10
different colours and thicknesses from 1/8" to 1/2". You'd have to drill a
lot of holes...
You can get perforated sheet PVC from McMaster, it's very durable. You
could always paint it with Krylon Fusion if you didn't want dark grey.
